SEASONAL SCENTS - THE FÊTE EDITION

At this time of year the South of France celebrates something almost every weekend. We have just moved on from Mimosa, the pretty dense yellow flowers that have been covering the hedges and brightening the towns and villages for the last 6 weeks, to the Lemon and Violet Festivals happening now and for the next few weeks.
With protected status in their geographical regions, these are celebrations with deep routed history and symbolism.

Violets have been grown in Toulouse since the 1850's, and since 1952 there has been an annual celebration of this serene, earthy and shy flower which is made up of 30-40 delicate petals. Gaining protected status in 1985, Toulouse has since been known as the 'city of the violet' whilst 'gifting' a violet is a sign of deep affection. One of our Savonneries, Maison Berthe Guilhem, will be taking part in this year's Fête, so if you happen to be in the region do go and see them.

The "Fête du Citron®" attracts more than 200,000 visitors every year. Established in 1934 this event began when Menton was the principle area of lemon cultivation in Europe. Like Toulouse Violets, Menton Lemons were also been granted protected geographical status in 2015.Take a glimpse of this incredible eventhere.
